  • Position your chosen 6-8 mm bead onto the center of the wire.
  • Round or faceted beads both work well in this project, so feel free to choose either.

STEP 2 – MEASURE YOUR RING SIZE

STEP 2 diy rings

  • Measure your ring size using your ring mandrel.
  • Ensure that the ring is a size bigger than your typical ring size, to allow for space for the bead.

STEP 3 – WRAP THE WIRES AROUND THE MANDREL

step 3 diy rings

  • Using the mandrel as a mold, wrap the wire of your do-it-yourself ring around 3-4 times.
  • Be careful when using a metal mandrel with silver plated wires, since wrapping the wire around it may scratch the silver metal finish.

STEP 4 – GATHER THE WIRE UNDERNEATH THE BEAD

  • Gather the circles of wire and place them as close to the bead as possible.
  • Carefully gather the wires underneath the bead, to avoid warping the wired ring out of shape.

STEP 5.2

  • Wrap the ends of the wire around the bead in a counter-clockwise direction.
  • Each successive wrapping will go underneath the previous wrap.
  • Maintain the same tension on both wires.

step 6.2 diy rings

  • Carefully and slowly remove the ring from the mandrel.
  • Make sure to keep one end of the wire pointing upwards, and the other pointing to downwards.
  • Working with the wire pointing upwards, begin by bending to down through the band of the ring.

STEP 7 – FINISH TWIRLING THE WIRE

STEP 7 DIY RING

  • Using the chain nose pliers, firmly pull the end of the wire.
  • Continue twirling wraps around the four wires to create the band of the ring.
  • Keep the coils as tight as you can, using pliers to push them together.
  • Keep in mind that the more twirls you wrap, the smaller ring you will end up creating.
  • Around 4-5 coils each side should do the trick.
  • Turn your ring and repeat the process.
  • Do not cut the excess wire yet.

STEP 8 – STRAIGHTEN THE BAND OF THE RING

  • Carefully position your wired ring back on the mandrel.
  • Do not let your wires to overlap one another.
  • Pull the ring downwards as far as you can on the mandrel to keep the wires straight and neat.

STEP 9 – FINISH THE ENDS OF YOUR WIRED RING

  • Trim the excess wires.
  • Use a cup burr or file to smooth the ends.
  • Using your pliers, push the ends downwards to keep the wires from sticking up.
  • Be careful not to squeeze too hard, or you will find yourself fixing the ring band once more.

STEP 10 – SHAPE THE RING BAND FOR THE LAST TIME

  • Flatten and smoothen out the band after pushing down the ends of the wire.
  • Use your rubber mallet and go over the ring band over again to finish straightening the wires. This will keep the ring secured in its finest shape.
