What To Make With Leftover Ham – Leftover Ham Recipes

by craftmin | December 18, 2017

If your holiday table today is blessed with a glistening and irresistible ham, at the end of the meal and despite all effort, you’ll probably have something leftover of that smoky meat. To avoid wasting that ham, here are simple recipes you can try that will require you to spend very little time in the kitchen – so you can enjoy the rest of the holiday with your loved ones.

The story of how the prized ham became part of the traditional Easter table started occured during winter seasons of the 1600s when the early American settlers first introduced cured pork. Later, in 1872, Annabella Hill authored the book Mrs. Hill’s Southern Practical Cookery and Receipt Book which contained detailed directions on how to boil a ham, with a note at the beginning highlighting how hams are often incorrectly cooked.

Nowadays, grocery stores usually sell fully-cooked hams, which are much easier to prepare. Follow the package directions, heat the ham to 140 degrees internal temperature and brush on a glaze  during the last half hour.

When cooking a large ham, leftovers are pretty much expected. If freezing the meat, leftover ham should be eaten within 2 months, or maximum 6 months.. You can freeze meal-sized packages or whole cuts of diced ham for larger pieces or casseroles.

Ham can be incorporated into many recipes, from breakfast dishes and casseroles to sandwiches and soups.
